If you or your web developer are using
Microsoft Front Page, OWT can host your site on our Front Page
Server. This will be required if you are using any "Front
Page Extensions" that the software
offers. These extensions will not work on traditional web servers.
FrontPage Hosting at OWT is identical to the services offered
by our Budget Hosting plan, with the addition of support for FrontPage
Extensions. The use of Web
Tools and other options that are included with our Standard
and E-Commerce Hosting plans are not available with FrontPage hosting.
Important: while we do offer hosting on a Front Page server,
we do it with great hesitation. The Front Page server is unlike
the
standard
web servers that we prefer. It offers less security for your
site and most importantly encourages you to develop your site
in a non-standard
fashion. OWT does not have Front Page techs on staff and our
ability to provide support for sites hosted on this server
is severely
restricted. Other OWT tools are not available in conjunction
with the Front Page
extensions. Lastly, be aware that we currently support the
2000 extension set.
Other Options
Once they learn about the limitations of hosting on a Front
Page server, many hosting clients who are developing their
own site
ask for suggestions on another HTML Editor.
At the low end of the cost scale, we have always recommended
Visual Page by Symantec - but this software is unfortunately
not in production
anymore. You may, however, still be able to find it in
eBay listings or at software discount/clearance stores.
Macromedia's
Dreamweaver (Mac or PC)
and Adobe's Go Live (Mac or PC)
are also recommended HTML editors. Either one typically
costs
between $300-$400. |
